LameXP

Certain devices provide support only for MP3 files, which makes it impossible to play a song or recording in WAV or other format. The only solution is to convert the files. If you wish to perform this operation quickly, without encountering any difficulties, you should look at LameXP. It supports various audio formats and it is capable of processing multiple files simultaneously. The application also allows you to edit the metadata of your files and make other configurations.

LameXP is distributed as a freeware application, for Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8. The software can be used on Wine-enabled Linux distributions as well. It can be installed in a few moments and you don't have to meet any special requirements.

The user interface consists of several tabs, on which you can import source files, select a destination folder, choose an output format, edit metadata and make a series of advanced settings. Audio files can be imported with a standard Open dialog, but you can also drag and drop the files over a floating icon, which is displayed on the screen, while LameXP is running.

The software allows you to explore your local folders on the same interface, which makes it easier to select an output folder. You can jump directly to the music or desktop folders, create new ones or set LameXP to store the converted files in the same folder as the originals. Audio files can be converted to and from MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, Opus and other formats.

You can also make a series of advanced configurations, like adjusting a LAME algorithm quality level, setting a maximum and minimum bitrate, enable and configure a volume normalization filter and more. If you are satisfied with your settings, you only need to click a button, located in the lower right corner of the interface, and start converting your audio files. Besides converting files, the software can also write meta information and generate a playlist file.
